This site provides recommendations and guidance for taking medications before a procedure with anesthesia
The tool is not meant to be a comprehensive list of EVERY medication or supplement available to patients
It includes commonly confused medications that are either important to continue, important to stop, or important to consider risks and benefits when making these decisions
Types of medications included are blood thinners, and medications for diabetes, pain, anxiety and the heart
If a medication is not listed in the database, it is generally recommended to continue the medication as prescribed
Click on the 'Meds' button below to search for a medication by brand name or generic name
You can also search the full FDA list of medications to help find or confirm a medication
If you want to look up a pill or tablet, use the 'Pills' button to search the Drugs.com picture database
If the instructions say to continue as prescribed, take the pill even on the day of the procedure with a small sip of water
If fasting, and food is required to swallow a pill, DO NOT take the medication and inform the provider
